The Open Identity Center & The Illusion of “Not Enough”

My own journey with an entirely open G Center (also called the Identity Center) has shaped nearly everything about my path. I’ve spent my entire life searching for who I truly am. That quest led me to explore nearly every self-discovery system out there … Enneagram, Myers-Briggs, StrengthsFinder, True Colors, DISC, and more. Each one gave me a piece of the puzzle. But it wasn’t until Human Design that I felt like I finally found the full blueprint.

That long search wasn’t in vain. It gave me the range to relate, the discernment to guide, and the compassion to meet others right where they are. It’s also why my work today is so deeply personal … I’ve lived the questions!

“Who am I to lead?”
“What right do I have to share this?”
“Do I even know who I really am?”

If you’ve asked the same or similar questions, you’re not broken you might just have an Open (or Undefined) G Center - the Human Design center that governs identity, love, and direction.

Only about 40% of people have this center undefined.
Even fewer have it completely open (no gates activated) like I do.

When it’s open or undefined, your identity is fluid, not fixed … meaning, you’re not here to have a fixed identity or direction in life.  You’re here to flow!
You become your environment.
And with a completely open identity center, you mirror back the energy of the people around you.

That comes with a gift and a challenge:

You can relate to everyone, and with the open identity center, you reflect people back to themselves - often more clearly than they’ve ever seen.

And when someone doesn’t like what they see?
They may project it back onto you.

I’ve experienced this again and again - in relationships, business, and leadership.
But it’s also been one of my greatest superpowers. 

In direct selling leadership, I could intuitively feel people’s direction and speak to what mattered to them.

In my Human Design work now, this same quality helps me guide clients straight back to their truth - not mine.

This isn’t about molding yourself to be someone else.
I have a defined Throat Center, so my voice is clear, consistent, and rooted.
What I say isn’t performative. It’s grounded.
But the lens I speak through? That does adapt.

If you have an open or undefined G, you may:

  • Struggle to define a consistent “personal brand”
  • Question whether you're qualified to lead without a fixed identity
  • Feel deeply at home everywhere… and still wonder where you truly belong

The Imposter Voice Says:

“You don’t have a clear identity. You can’t lead anyone.”
“You’re just copying people.”
“You don’t know who you are.”

Your Aligned Truth Says:

“My adaptability is my credibility.”
“I’m here to reflect truth, not perform from identity.”
“What others see in me can be a mirror of what’s in them.”

Realignment Practice:

Before doubting your right to lead, create or share, ask yourself:

“Am I absorbing others’ identity - or am I standing in my own anchored truth of who I am in this moment?” 

“Do I need a personal brand - or do I need to trust the transmission of my energy?” 

Let your identity be relational. Your guidance is real because it meets people where they are, and helps them return to who they are.  Allow yourself to flow in each moment and situation.

You’re Not a Chameleon Out of Confusion.

Your undefined G isn’t a weakness - it’s an intuitive gift for connection, redirection, and soulful guidance.  It gives you the benefit of seeing other people’s identity and direction in life, and where they may be off in the weeds.  What a gift you bring to the world!
